JGP Chair introduced JGP activities and CJK coordination efforts to global community
16 July, 2015
During ICANN meeting in Buenos Aires held in June 2015, JGP (Japanese Generation Panel) Chair Hiro Hotta updated the ICANN community about the JGP activities (*1). In addition, he introduced the coordination efforts among CGP (Chinese Generation Panel), JGP, and KGP (Korean Generation Panel) on behalf of these 3 GPs (*2). During APrIGF meeting in Macau held in July 2015 (*3), Hiro Hotta also introduced CJK (Chinese-Japanese-Korean) coordination efforts to the Asia Pacific community and moderated a panel discussion about IDN-related cross-community effort.
Introducing JGP activities and CJK coordination effort to the communities aimed to explain about a case study on how communities work in defining common domain name rules in a bottom-up multistakeholder scheme within a language community and then across communities. Especially, elaborating a single definition of RootLGR regarding Han (Kanji in Japanese, Hanja in Korean) script not only is technically complicated but also needs a mutual understanding and respect of profound cultural/community background. CJK cross-community effort in this aspect was highlighted in the panel discussion and gave the community a vivid case study of this kind of effort.
